Knocked-out tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. Gently rinse it. If you can, place it back in the socket. If not, keep it in milk and seek care promptly.
Severe toothache
Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently to clear anything trapped. Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum.
Swelling or abscess concern
Rinse with salt water and apply a cold compress. If swelling affects breathing or swallowing, seek immediate emergency care.
Broken or chipped tooth
Save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and cover a sharp edge with dental wax or sugarless gum until you can be seen.
